Seeking a legal career with global impact?

Ogier has been training England & Wales solicitors for 20 years and the success of our scheme is evidenced by the fact we have former Ogier trainee solicitors at every level of the firm, from associate through to partner. There are now more opportunities than ever to train as an E&W solicitor, for those who are looking to qualify through the Solicitors Qualifying Examination route (SQE), with a number of pathways to support individuals at different stages of their careers.

We are looking for the very best aspiring lawyers to join us: the next generation of our firm must be collaborative and tech-savvy with strong academic achievement, and ready to drive our business forward.

With a development platform that allows you to track your own progress, you'll be able to take control and make a career that's as unique as you are.

Our highly successful Jersey legal trainee scheme provides a structured training programme, where trainee solicitors rotate through different teams over a two-year period, which are known as "seats". Each seat will be for a period of three, six or nine months where trainees get to develop their skills in both contentious and non-contentious areas of legal practice. You'll work alongside our experienced lawyers on challenging, complex and high-profile matters.

With regular updates and a formal review at the end of every seat you'll have an opportunity to reflect upon your personal development and progress. We have a fully interactive learning management platform, allowing you the control to track your performance as you go.

Centring flexibility and finding a route that works best for an individual's particular circumstances, we offer a number of pathways to qualification.

'Learn then earn' pathway
Candidates will study for SQE 1 and SQE 2 full time over the course of a year, before starting their 24-month rotational legal training contract with Ogier.

'Earn while you learn' pathway
Candidates who do not wish to study full time can instead choose this pathway and complete SQE 1 and / or SQE 2 whilst undertaking their 24-month rotational legal training contract at Ogier. Individuals considering this route will need to have 12 months or more paralegal experience at Ogier (or a comparable firm).

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • On track for, or to have already achieved a minimum of a 2:1 degree (non-law graduates welcome but must be committed to pursuing a career in law)
  • AAB grades at A-Level (or the equivalent in UCAS points)
  • Passing both SQE 1 and 2 examinations (if already completed)
The pathways include some financial assistance towards the cost of SQE preparation courses and SRA exam and assessment fees where you have not yet started the course.

Applications are invited from students currently in their final year of a degree or who have completed their undergraduate studies and are currently studying or about to start the SQE. We also welcome applications from candidates who have recently completed the SQE and looking to complete their QWE through our trainee solicitor programme.

If your initial application stands out, you will be progressed to the interview stage. All interviews are conducted via video call or in person with our trainee supervisors and Training Principal. Simple, transparent, to the point.

Successful candidates will receive an offer and confirmation of their start date which (where applicable) is conditional upon passing both SQE 1 and 2.

We have openings commencing in March 2026 and September 2026.

PARALEGALS
We also have a non-rotational route to qualification, the 'Paralegal Pathway' which enables Ogier paralegals to undertake their SQE exams and Qualifying Work Experience within a particular team.

The applicant will need to have worked at Ogier as a paralegal for at least five months and there will need to be a business case for qualification. You can find a list of paralegal vacancies on our careers website, however, please note that joining Ogier as a paralegal does not guarantee support to qualify through this pathway.

With more pathways available to support individuals at different stages of their career, whether you're a current paralegal considering your options or looking to progress onto our fantastic training contract route, it’s a great time to join our award-winning firm.

We recognise that individual circumstances can vary therefore we are always keen to have an open conversation to discuss how we can progress your career with Ogier.

APPLICATIONS
The application window closes on 31 March 2025 with interviews taking place in April for successfully shortlisted candidates.
